Site visit by excited new users of
the centre |
 |
"Members of the management committee Margaret Smart and Angie
Stone make one of their regular visits to site to check on
progress. Both Margaret and Angie have been involved in the
Danesmoor community all their lives working for many years with
the St. Barnabas' Pre-school which will re-locate to the centre
once it's completed. Margaret Smart commented, "We're delighted
that the centre is taking shape so well - Danesmoor deserves the
very best and everyone is very excited about all the new centre
will be able to do for the community. We as a pre-school have
been caring for the children of Danesmoor for over 30 years,
it's going to be fantastic to have a 21st Century facility to
offer them so that they can have the very best start in life."

A Time
Capsule dating back to 1883
was unearthed beneath the
foundation stone of the old Danesmoor Church. The contents
included two Newspapers, a copy of the Derbyshire Times dated
Saturday 7th July 1883 and a copy of the Derbyshire Courier of
the same date. Sadly, a copy of the Parochial Magazine did not
survive but in better condition was a note from the Church's
Architect Mr. Rollinson and the builder Mr Tinkler and a half
penny coin of the era.

One million pound Christmas gift for
Danesmoor
Christmas has come early in Danesmoor with news that
grants totalling more than one million pounds have been secured to
build a new community centre in the area. The new centre will be
known as 'the St. Barnabas' Centre' and will replace the existing
St. Barnabas' Church and Church hall on Pilsley Road.
It is envisaged the community space will provide room for training,
pre-school education and office space as well as continuing to be
the local church and housing many local community groups and
organisations. Cash for the project was secured with the help of the
Economic Development Team at North East Derbyshire District Council
which was able to help the local community access funding from a
range of government and European funding channels.
It is planned that work will begin in the new year and the community
centre will be completed by November 2007.
